Dans Pell\u00e9as et Melisande, dans les Estampes, les Pr\u00e9ludes, les Images pour le piano, il s\u2019agit de notes \u00e9trang\u00e8res, sans aucune pr\u00e9paration ni r\u00e9solution, sans accent expressif particulier, qui font tranquillement partie de l\u2019accord, changeant sa couleur, lui donnant un piment, un parfum nouveaux. Ces notes gardent un caract\u00e8re d\u2019intrusion, de suppl\u00e9ment\u00a0: l\u2019abeille dans la fleur\u00a0! Elles ont cependant un certain droit de cit\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;accord, soit parce qu\u2019elles ont m\u00eame sonorit\u00e9 que telle appoggiature class\u00e9e, soit parce qu\u2019elles proviennent de la r\u00e9solution de la fondamentale.
